Getting to Huntingdon

Things to do in Huntingdon
So, once we’ve got you there, what should you do? Huntingdon days out are typically spent sampling the local history, taking a stroll by the river or shopping among the mix of traditional markets and major retailers the town has to offer. The town boasts a few famous residents. John Montagu – the 4th Earl of (and inventor of the) Sandwich, Oliver Cromwell and, most recently, former Prime Minister John Major. Where Cromwell is concerned, Huntingdon has the only museum in the country dedicated to the former Lord Protector of the Commonwealth. The Cromwell Museum features portraits and artefacts that document his life as well as occasional live events.
The historic town trail is highly recommended for visitors. A self-guided tour, you’ll get to know the history of the town and see a collection of interesting buildings, including the Norman stonework of the All Saints Church - you can find the trail on the Huntingdon First website. If you don’t fancy a full tour of the town, a visit to Houghton Mill is worth your time – a National Trust-protected historic mill in a setting that looks like it’s been taken straight off the front of a postcard.
If you fancy a natural adventure, Hinchingbrooke Country Park is just a short walk from the train station and offers acres of space devoted to lakes, meadows and woodland. Other nice strolls to take are over at Riverside Park and Grafham Water a few miles out of the town. Of course, if you fancy a bit of retail therapy, Huntingdon has both a modern shopping centre and a variety of more traditional markets.
