Everything you need to know about bringing luggage with you on your Great Northern train journey

Luggage

Here’s everything you need to know about bringing luggage with you on your Great Northern train journey – including details about bikes on trains, step-free access, and how to get help if you’re a disabled passenger.

Baggage, bikes and step-free access

Some of our stations have step-free access, but not all as yet – so bear this in mind if you're carrying heavy luggage. You can check what facilities are available in our station information.

You can usually bring a bike on board, but there are some restrictions on peak time services if you can’t fold your bike up. Read more about bringing bikes on our trains

As always, try to keep your luggage with you – or stowed away safely in the luggage racks or overhead storage. It’s up to you to keep an eye on your things on the train.

Do make sure you take your items with you when you leave the train. Don’t forget that umbrella!

Left luggage

There are left luggage facilities available at London Kings Cross station.

Help with luggage if you’re disabled

We can help you with your luggage if you’re disabled.

Try to give us at least 12 hours’ notice so we can arrange for someone to give you a hand when you travel with us.

What we can help you with

  • An item of hand luggage (something you can place on your lap)
  • Up to two larger items (preferably wheelie cases if they’re suitcases)

The larger items should ideally each be:

  • no bigger than 30x70x90cm (such as two large suitcases)
  • weigh no more than 23kg (= around 3 stone and 9 pounds)

This is similar to airline guidelines
