The fire near the railway at Stevenage has now been extinguished. However, this has caused significant damage to the signalling equipment in the area.

Disruption is expected until 12:00.

Customer Advice

No trains will run between Stevenage and Gordon Hill until further notice.

If you are travelling this morning between these stations, you will need to use an alternative route to reach your destination, and your journey will take at least 60 minutes longer than usual.

Trains which usually run between Hertford North and Moorgate

Will not run until further notice.

Trains which usually run between Stevenage and Moorgate via Hertford North

Will instead either run between Stevenage and Moorgate via Welwyn Garden City, or between Gordon Hill and Moorgate.

No trains will call at the following stations:

• Watton-at-Stone
• Hertford North
• Bayford
• Cuffley
• Crews Hill

If you are travelling to or from these stations you will need to use an alternative route to reach your destination.

You can use your ticket to travel at no extra cost on:

• Alternative Great Northern or Thameslink services where available including services via Welwyn Garden City
• London Underground via any reasonable route
• London Overground services between London Liverpool Street and Enfield Town, which is roughly a 10-minute walk from Enfield Chase (you can find a walking route here)
• Greater Anglia services between Hertford East and London Liverpool Street. Hertford East is roughly a 20-minute walk from Hertford North (you can find a walking route here)
• Elizabeth line services between Farringdon and London Liverpool Street
• London Buses between London terminals, London Kings Cross, Crews Hill, and Moorgate

Can you tell me more about the incident?

Yesterday we had a report of the fire brigade dealing with a fire next to the track in the Stevenage area. All trains were prevented from running through the area during this time.

The fire has now been extinguished but has resulted in damage to the signalling system and the electrical power supply in the area. Network Rail are working to reopen all lines affected, but currently no trains can run between Stevenage and Gordon Hill via Hertford North.

Today, Thursday 10 October, engineering work is taking place between Kings Lynn and Ely.

Great Northern are unable to run the planned rail replacement bus services between these stations once the train service finishes each evening due to roadworks and heavy flooding on the route.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Today, Thursday 10 October, engineering works are taking place on the route between Kings Lynn and Ely.

The route the rail replacement buses would take between these stations has been affected by roadworks and heavy flooding, and because of this, Great Northern are unable to run any rail replacement buses once train services finish for the day.

If you are travelling between Ely and Kings Lynn after 22:00, you will will need to travel on one of the earlier services below to complete your journey:

The final service from Kings Lynn each evening will be the 21:42 Kings Lynn to London Kings Cross train. There are still services from Ely towards London after this time.

The final service from Ely to Kings Lynn will be at 21:56. After this time, there will be no alternative transport options between these stations.

Teams will assess the situation on a daily basis as to whether road conditions improve and the rail replacement buses can be reinstated. Journey planners will be updated as soon as possible if a rail replacement service is able to operate.
