No, Advance tickets are only valid for the date, time, and train shown on your ticket. However, if you decide not to travel, because of train delay or cancellation, customers are entitled to a full refund, as per Condition 30.1 of the National Rail Conditions of Travel.

Q: Can I combine Railcards with Advance tickets?

Advance train tickets are single (one-way) tickets available for pre-booked journeys on selected routes. These tickets offer some of the best fares but must be used on the specific train you book.

Advance tickets are valid only on the specific date, time, and train stated on the ticket. They are perfect for travellers with fixed plans.

Things to remember

Inflexible: Advance tickets are non-refundable and cannot be used on a different train or time (unless train has been cancelled or delayed, in which case, customers are entitled to a refund or journey adjustments).
Limited availability: Tickets are subject to availability, so book early for the best prices.
Additional restrictions: These tickets may have extra restrictions when used with a Railcard or other discounts. Please refer to the National Rail website to check terms and conditions.

How can I save further, and what discounts are available?

What happens if I miss my train?

Advance tickets are only valid for the specific service you booked. If you miss your train for reasons other than delays or cancellations, you’ll need to purchase a new ticket to travel.

However, if your train is cancelled or delayed and you decide not to travel, you’re entitled to a full refund under Condition 30.1 of the National Rail Conditions of Travel. Please contact the ticket retailer or operator to arrange your refund.
