Rail fares have changed

Fare changes from 9 June 2025

What do I need to know?

  • From Monday 9 June 2025 on weekdays only, Super Off-Peak tickets will not be available for journeys to and from London for stations between Potters Bar, Peterborough and Foxton on the East Coast Main Line, as well as from Hertford North and Watton At Stone.
  • Anytime, Off-Peak tickets, and Advance tickets (depending on availability) are still available for these journeys.
  • There are no changes to fares on weekends.

Why have fares changed?

  • We have made this change to simplify the fares we offer customers.
  • Not every station or journey has Super Off-Peak fares available, and where it was available the difference in price between Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets on weekdays for journeys to London was very small, in some cases as little as 10p, but the restrictions on travel in the evening peak meant they were significantly less flexible.
  • Where they were very close in price, we have removed the Super Off-Peak fares on weekdays. Off-Peak tickets give customers a lot more freedom on when they travel so they do not have to worry about what time train they use in an afternoon or evening.
  • All ticket revenue is received by the Government and reinvested to help cover the costs of running, maintaining and improving the railway.
