Winter timetable from 15 December 2019
Most current train times remain unchanged, but passengers are asked to check online journey planners as some services may provide additional journey options.
Summary of changes:
Additional Great Northern Metro calls at New Southgate and Oakleigh Park
We will reinstate additional peak AM calls at New Southgate and Oakleigh Park. This will mean that both stations will see an extra two trains towards Moorgate per hour, creating a six trains per hour to London service during the morning peak. The entire Great Northern Metro timetable will be optimised for the performance of the new train fleet in May 2020.
Late weekday evening and weekend closures of Moorgate
Network Rail is currently delivering a programme of intensive maintenance and cleaning of the tunnels on the Northern City Line, the section of track between Moorgate and Finsbury Park. In December, Network Rail will start overnight and weekend possessions to improve its access to the track and to complete more work than can be completed during the normal break between the first and last trains.
From Monday 16 December, the last weekday departure from Moorgate will be the 21:40 service to Watton-at-Stone. Later departures on the Great Northern Metro routes to Welwyn Garden City and Watton-at-Stone will depart from King’s Cross.
On weekends, all Great Northern Metro services from Welwyn Garden City and Stevenage via Hertford North will be diverted into King’s Cross. However, during planned weekend engineering work at King’s Cross, Moorgate will be made available wherever possible to provide an alternative route.
Changes to Thameslink and Greater Anglia services between Cambridge and Cambridge North
From Sunday 15th December, Greater Anglia (GA) will introduce new services to Cambridge and Cambridge North:
- New hourly direct services between Stansted Airport and Norwich via Cambridge and Cambridge North, seven days a week (except Monday to Friday peak hours, when a change at Cambridge/Ely will be necessary)
- New direct services between Cambridge North and London Liverpool Street via Cambridge, seven days a week (as most GA London services are extended to/from Cambridge North)
- New hourly direct services between Cambridge and Ipswich on Sundays (providing an hourly frequency seven days a week)
These services will be supported by Greater Anglia’s introduction of brand-new trains.
To enable Greater Anglia’s trains to pass through Cambridge, the hourly Thameslink service between London King’s Cross and Cambridge North will terminate at Cambridge from Monday 16 December. Please check online journey planners as train times will change and some services may provide new journey options.
