What types of rail discounts are available?
The three main train discounts are railcards, GroupSave and Student Connect. Find out the benefits of each one and whether they apply to you below.
Railcards
Taking a railcard on your travels can save you 1/3 off the price of lots of different tickets. They last a year and are available online or from your local station. And it’s not just a young person’s game. As well as the 16-25 Railcard, other cards include:
- Family and Friends Railcard: Ideal for travelling in a group with kids
- Disabled Persons Railcard: Save money if you have a disability that makes train travel difficult
- Senior Railcard: Travel for less as an over-60
- Two Together Railcard: Make savings by taking more trips as a twosome

GroupSave
Whether it’s a work night out or a day trip with friends, you could travel there for less with GroupSave. If you’re travelling by train in a group of 3-9 adults at Off-Peak times, you’ll automatically save 1/3 by booking as a group.

Who can travel for free?
Children under 5 years of age travel for free across our network.
Please note, children under 5 who are travelling without a ticket may only occupy a seat that is not required by a fare-paying passenger.

Holders of London Freedom Passes and certain types of Oyster cards can also travel for free on some of our services within London Zones 1-6.
