Win the opportunity for a poem written by your child to be displayed at selected train stations, on trains and on websites operated by Govia Thameslink Railway Limited (the “Promotion”)*.
Terms of Participation in the Promotion (the “Terms”)
1. Eligibility
1.1. To be eligible, people entering the competition must:
1.1.1. You must be over 18 years old and the parent or legal guardian of the participating child (the “Participating Adult”);
1.1.2. the participating child must be aged between five and thirteen years (the “Child”); and
1.1.3. you must:
1.1.3.1. provide parental / guardian consent for the Child to enter and your age and email address; and
1.1.3.2. have a UK postal address;
1.1.3.3. warrant that the poem entered is the original work of the Child and no other person is the author of the entry
1.2. Employees of Govia Thameslink Railway Limited, their families, dependants and agents and any other person connected with are not eligible to Participate in the Promotion
2. Participation
2.1. To participate in this competition, the Child:
2.1.1. must write a poem that adheres to the competition guidelines as advertised on the competition webpage; and
2.1.2. The Participating Adult must correctly complete all fields in the submission form to confirm entry; and
2.1.3. By entering the Participating Adult:
2.1.3.1. provides consent for the Child to participate; and
2.1.3.2. grants, on behalf of the Child, GTR with a licence to use the Child’s entry in the manner set out in Section 4, if that entry is a winning entry; and
2.1.3.3. agrees to be bound by these Terms
3. Promotion and Winner Selection
3.1. If you satisfy the Eligibility Criteria set out in 1, and Participate as set out in 2, then entry must be between the hours of 00:00 on Monday 25th March 2024 and closes on 23:59 on Friday 10th May 2024
3.2. Thirty entries will be shortlisted by the Promoter and its partner agency (SHOOK Agency LLP) in accordance with the selection criteria (set out in 3.4)
3.3. Ten entries from the shortlist will be selected by an independent judge, Joseph Coelho, in accordance with the selection criteria
3.4. The selection criteria are:
3.4.1. Language and Structure: The poem should demonstrate creative use of language and structure (25%)
3.4.2. Theme: The poem should clearly identify a location on or near (less than 10km away from) the Govia Thameslink Railway network (25%);
3.4.3. Creativity and Uniqueness: The poem should convey an emotive and entertaining message, where the writer’s voice clearly comes through (25%); and
3.4.4. Inspiration: the poem should inspire the wider public to visit the location described in the poem (25%).
3.5. The Participating Adults of the ten Child winners will be notified by email between Monday 3rd June and Friday 14th June 2024. If the Participating Adult of a Child winner does not respond within 48 hours, or any other period specified in our contact notice, of the notification being sent or is otherwise not available, the Prize will be forfeited by and the Promotor may select an alternative entrant to receive the Prize
4. The Prize
4.1. Each Child winner selected and which claims the Prize will have their submission displayed:
4.1.1. at selected train stations; and
4.1.2. on selected trains; and
4.1.3. on the Southern, Thameslink and Great Northern websites operated by Govia Thameslink Railway Limited (“the “Prize”)
4.2. Each Child winner selected, and which claims the Prize will also receive complementary return train travel for one day on GTR routes for themselves and up to 4 other people when travelling together
Terms and Conditions
5. Only one entry per Child. No purchase necessary
6. The Prize is not transferable and, unless offered by the Promotor, there will be no substitutions, or cash alternatives of, for the Prize
7. The Prize is subject to availability
8. No expenses incurred in connection with entry to or participation in this Promotion will be paid
9. The winning selections of the Promotor is final and no correspondence will be entered into
10. The Promotor shall be entitled to right to refuse to accept any entry
11. All entries are subject to verification. Incomplete, bulk, automated and third party entries (including “voting exchange”) will be disqualified
12. Failure to comply with these Terms will automatically render an entry void
13. The Promotor does not accept any liability for any entries which are late, lost, incomplete or rendered
14. The name and county/town of the participating Adult(s) of Any Child which wins a Prize will be available for one month after the prize draw closing date by sending a stamped addressed envelope to the Promotor requesting the same
15. The Participating Adult consents to their personal data being used in this manner. Consent may be withdrawn at any time
16. Except as outlined in 14 and 15 above all personal data will be held and used by The Promotor in accordance with its Privacy Policy
17. Participants may print these Terms or send a self-addressed envelope to Francesca Boyd, 1st Floor, Monument Place, 24 Monument Street, London, EC3R 8AJ requesting a copy and they will be sent to you
18. The Promoter reserves the right to withdraw this offer or amend these Terms at any time without notice
19. In the event of any dispute regarding the Terms, the Promotion itself or any other matter relating to, or arising out of, these Terms or the Promotion, the Promoter’s decision shall be final. No written correspondence or verbal discussion will be entered into

21. This Promotion and these Terms are governed by the Laws of England and Wales and the Promoter and Participants agree that the Courts of England and Wales, exclusively, shall settle disputes
