To improve your journey with us, we’re looking to change how we’re doing things on board our trains.

Building a railway for the future

We’re facing greater demand on Great Northern trains than ever before.

We’re looking to meet this demand through new, more modern trains and by making greater use of technology on our existing trains.

This is just one part of a larger set of modernising infrastructure changes. Most notable of these is the multi-billion pound Thameslink Programme.

Reducing cancellations

One proven way to reduce the numbers of cancelled trains is by making use of driver-only trains. When the doors are operated solely by drivers, we won’t need to cancel a service if there are no on-board supervisors available.

While some worry about driver-only trains, they have a proven track record. Over 40% of our services already safely operate this way and have done so for many years.

Maintaining on board staff numbers

We value our team. That’s why they’re here to stay, with no job losses or reduction in salary. Going forward, you’ll see just as many staff on board to support your journey as there are today.
